Timucin - I have recently done this - it takes a very long time - the thought of putting it all back together is a bit daunting!

I found it a good idea to print off etka exploded views with lists of parts for putting it back together - then you know you have the correct length bolts for bits going back togehter.

When are you planning on having all your parts so you can start rebuilding?

What are you doing for bearing shells? Crank? Clutch? Flywheel? headstuds? etc?

          crank:will use stock carnk
clutch: will see how it is tomorow,if it ok then will go with that for some time,if not will get sachs racing stuff
          flywheel:will go with stock.
studs:will replace with new stock ones if necessary

man i am out of money already.... but i got all my parts, turbo, intcooler, intake man,

Timucin - if you are going for BIG power and torque on this conversion I seriously recommend you get a Sachs motorsport clutch. I also think you should dump the dual mass flywheel for a single mass item from a 3B - it bolts straight on and does the Sachs clutch - just check the splines on the gearbox you intend to use are OK. If you wanna do this right I would suggest a NON torsen 016 gearbox - it will be stronger than CGR or CRB 01E.

The single mass flywheel makes for a free-er revving engine though you lose some of the creamy smooth character of the DM flywheeled ABY and ADU engines.

Make sure to get all bottom end parts PROPERLY dynamically balanced with a little lightening of course - done by experts with experience of these engines.

It would also be very wise to have all moving components crack tested by a machine shop.

                does it need any machining?
do you have part number for that?
                which cars has 3B engine

:Like Paul says, you need to at least make sure the rods/pistonsrings/pins are balanced (all weigh exactly the same) and it is a good idea to get all the rotating parts of it balanced together - by an expert.

If I was you I would change the clutch now - I am getitng mine uprated and new material - but I am skint and that is only costing me £120 so thought I would give it a go.

I am sticking with the dual mass flywheel - just to see how it all runs - if my clutch is rubbish and need to change it I will proabbly change the flywheel to a 3B and consider a 5 speed gearbox.

I would also be tempted to change from headbolts to head studs - like the ARP ones. (I am doing this)

Get onto the Erwin site and download the genuine audi engine manuals for you car - it will really help and give you some confidence that you are doing everything correctly - before you take your head off you should be reading the manual.

                          Timucin,

you dont have to machine the 3B flywheel to get it to fit (but you may want to skim it to make it a little lighter). Remove the spacer plate between the engine and gearbox and the 3B flywheel and 3B clutch will work, I am doing this with my rebuild. The friction plate splines are the same.

                          Mark.

                              Mark,

Would this be the same as on the urS4 fitted with the AAN engine and CBL 6 speed geabox?
I am looking at replacing the DMFW also.
